String of Pearls
Hand-cut archival microprint paper, cast plastic
72" x 6" diameter

I recently inherited a load of pearl necklaces. In true sculptor's fashion, my mind raced to what I could make with them. I saw a connection to the formation of pearls and the layering of information embedded in the microprint paper I've been employing in my sculptures for close to a decade- the hidden information, like that of our subconscious mind.
Pearls, when worn by women in a traditional way, seems very proper. A pearl references the clitoris while a "string of pearls" suggests semen ejaculated around a person's neck during an act of sex. There are several interpretations, all true, while beauty belongs to the beholder.
